Definition

Proportion of the population by level of agreement with:

  1. Human rights;
  2. Respect for the law;
  3. Gender equality;
  4. Ethnic and cultural diversity;
  5. Respect for Indigenous (First Nations, Métis or Inuit) culture;
  6. English and French as Canada's official languages.

Measurement

This indicator is measured in the General Social Survey (GSS) - Social Identity, the Canadian Social Survey (CSS), and the Survey Series on People and their Communities (SSPC).

Survey respondents are asked:

To what extent do you personally agree with the following values?

  • Human rights

    • To a small extent
    • Not at all
  • Respect for the law
